These tips to lose weight are based on my own experience of 8 months of weight loss losing over 100 pounds and I hope they help you focus on your goals and keep going until you have the body you want.
1. Start some kind of exercise routine straight away. It does not matter how difficult you find this, you must start getting your body moving and working in the right direction. Although you should start easily and slowly do not be afraid to push yourself either. Your body is naturally strong and likes exercise so trust it and use it.
2. Learn to trust your body and learn to relax with it because when you struggle with something it creates fear and anger so many by consciously choosing to trust your body again you will find weight falls away more quickly.
3. Write a journal each day about how you did that day in terms of a diet or exercise and also add it how you felt. I found that sometimes it was easy and others harder: it was helpful to go back and see that I got through other hard days already.
4. Understand that weight loss is an emotional experience where you are challenging your old ideas and adding in new ones so your emotions will be working. Getting a new body, for those who have lost a lot of weight, is also quite an amazing experience so let your emotions flow.
5. Along the journey to your new body you may lose your way and this is to be expected. You are not perfect and you may struggle some days but read your diary, get back the inspiration and start again the next day.
6. Keep going until you reach your goal and do not stop. The key to success is to change your lifestyle and keep it changed. Your goal is achievable.
7. Weight yourself every third day as every day is too much and you do not want to be over focused on your weight.
8. If you have not lost weight after 6 days (after 2 weigh ins) then change something. The lack of weight loss will alert you than you need to change your exercise routine by doing a little more or reduce your food intake a bit.
9. Accept that you weight loss journey will ebb and flow, you will lose more weight one week than the next, you will feel great about exercise one day and not the next so be kind to yourself along the way but keep going however you feel.
10. Keep reminding yourself that you are worth the effort and so is your experience. Take time each day to imagine how good it will be to fit into the new clothes or get into that swim costume. At the same time remember how terrible it may have been to struggle with your weight and how much you want to change!
There are tips for losing weight that I know will make a difference to your own weight loss journey as they did mine. Another essential ingredient to this process was setting goals for each month and how much I wanted to lose, this kept me motivated and committed.
